American immigrants Tue, 03 Feb 2026 14:45:53 +0100 I've noticed an increase in the number of Youtube videos from American immigrants in France. From detailing their "shock" of the cultural differences, to their love of our universal health care, a slower life, less pressure, better food, and a life more based. My doctor told me he had several new American patients in and around our village, it's not just on Youtube, it's real. Good for them, it's not looking good on the other side of the pond. I've been living in France since 1976, and have a French passport. Being bilingual, I used to know many British immigrants in France, or "expats" some like to call themselves in order to differentiate themselves from common or garden immigrants. But I found that many locked themselves in a kind of ghetto, speaking English at home, only frequenting other British people, UK Satellite TV instead of French TV, you get the idea. Obviously it doesn't last, and since brexit their repatriation has been like the returning tide. I hope that our new American friends are more inclusive, and immerge themselves. The true benefit of changing countries is only realised when you don't treat the inhabitants as annoying sidelines. ␌
