Using Xfce4 with Devilspie2 Thu, 01 Jan 2026 10:24:49 +0100 +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ Happy New Year! I've always liked the simplicity and speed of Xfce4, KDE and Gnome are an anathema to my idea of computing. I've been using DWM for a while but now a have a slightly faster laptop I wanted to try getting Xfce4 to give a dwm-ish look and feel. The top panel was easy to turn into something ressembling my dwm bar using just the workspace settings and default items. Kitty kept showing window decorations, and Librewolf doesn't start maximized though. I fixed this with Devilspie2. I created two files in .config/devilspie2: kitty.lua and librewolf.lua with the following contents: # kitty.lua if (get_window_name() == "kitty") then undecorate_window(); end # librewolf.lua if (get_window_name() == "LibreWolf") then maximize(); end I set devilspie to autostart in session and startup, and bob's your uncle (or your auntie sometimes) I also want to play with workspaces but I'll get back to this later as I have to go cook, can't have New years day without snails. ␌
