Much to do about nothing Wed, 08 Oct 2025 12:21:50 +0200 +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ Just thought I'd write something, anything, so here it is. I'm a retired guy with two hobbies, banging away on my laptop's keyboard, and woodworking. I tend to flip from one to the other for a few months. I had a form of undiagnosed ADHD as a child that bled into adulthood and I often find myself on sysyphus's slope when it comes to motivation, but I've leaned over the years to just go where the wind takes me and not fret too much. My wife and I and dog live in a tiny house in the Brittany countryside. We've had bigger houses in the past but due to the aleas of life we wound up here, and I've come to realise that a small house a lot easier to maintain with our advancing years. Plus our neighbours are pearls: for example yesterday we received French beans, cake, 12 eggs, and a had good laugh. This summer I built a shed to store some hardwood I recuperated from some old wardrobes. It was a big project but I think I nailed it, ha ha. Anyway it enabled me to clear some space, and I wound up making a sit down craft space in the boiler room so that I have the garage for big stuff and the craft space for the fiddly stuff. In this new space I added a CPL plug and hooked up a thinkpad T430 I had lying around and installed this gopher server. I have a vps with my mail server but now I have fibre I wanted to trial serving from home. The low requirements of gopher makes it feel quite snappy but I'd love to hear what the result feels like for you. Spending time with Gopher means my wood lathe is getting lonely, but with a bad back the confort of being an armchair keyboard surfer is hard to avoid, and my 12" Thinkpas X220 is perfect for this. I've noticed that many gopher sites tend to repeat links found everywhere in the gophersphere, so I intend to add as much original content as I can. Every little helps. Lunch is up, bye for now.
