Lynx, Gopher, and video files

Unfortunately I haven't been able to configure Lynx to open mpv 
with a video file from Gopher. If I set the filetype to 
";" (video) 
gophernicus displays "MOV" but the link doesn't open mpv

I've tried all the Lynx config tricks to no avail:

using ~/.mailcap
PERSONAL_MAILCAP:/home/philip/.mailcap
with .mailcap as
audio/*;   mpv %s &
image/*;   nsxiv %s &
video/*;   mpv %s &	

for lynx.cfg settings
VIEWER:video/*:mpv --title="Mpv" %s &:XWINDOWS
EXTERNAL:video:xdg-open %s &:TRUE:TRUE

Brick wall.
It seems like things are just ignored.

The only thing that works for images is
XLOADIMAGE_COMMAND:nsxiv %s &

So I've set the video filetype to "9", (BIN) 
with that that Lynx proposes to download the video file.
