My  paternal great  grandfather,  a dashing  young  man in  pre-war
photos, went over  to the French trenches to fight  in WW1. He came
back an old man riddled  with disease, and died shortly afterwards.
He wasn't counted as a casualty even though he evidently was.

I can't  begin to imagine how  Ukrainians will mark the  end of the
Russian invasion,  and the  generations of  pain engraved  in their
memories.
